On Saturday 8th October, 18 pupils from Ashbourne Primary took part in the 2022 British Schools’ Score Orienteering Championships (BSSOC) held at Shipley Country Park. 🏃♀️ 🏃♂️ 🌳
Competing either individually or as part of a pair, the participants had to visit as many controls as possible within 45 minutes, with each control worth 10 points. In the lead-up to the competition, the pupils received expert coaching from Stuart Swalwell and Sal Chaffey from Derwent Valley Orienteers (DVO).
On the day, Ashbourne Primary faced tough competition. The sheer number of participants did not deter the Ashbourne Primary competitors though and all 18 pupils put in a stellar performance.
🥉🥇Storming her way around the course, Rose visited 15 controls equating to 150 points, enough to earn her an individual bronze medal in the Year 6 Girls category. She also found success as part of the Primary Girls team. The top four scorers: Rose; Eliana & partner; Ava & Dolly and Freya & Lena were declared British Champions, taking home gold medals. The girls scored a combined total of 500 points – a solid 240 points ahead of the next team!
🥉The Primary Boys team also had a successful outing, George & Rohith; Casey & partner; Sam & Elsie and Jack & Oliver scored a combined total of 370 points, putting them comfortably in bronze medal position.
Holly, Tiffany & Poppy also represented Ashbourne Primary. All three girls demonstrated a great level of skill and should be incredibly proud of their performance on the day. 👏
