Sports Provision

At Ashbourne Primary School, we are proud of our high-quality PE and sport provision, which plays a central role in school life. We offer a wide range of sporting opportunities before school, during curriculum time and after school, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to participate, compete and succeed.

Our programme includes curriculum PE, festivals, competitions, clubs, inclusive sports opportunities and pathways for talented pupils. We believe that sport should be ambitious enjoyable, and inclusive, supporting children’s physical health, confidence, wellbeing and personal development.

We ensure that all pupils leave Ashbourne Primary School physically confident, motivated and engaged in sport and physical activity. 

We aim to:

  • Ensure 100% participation in PE and sporting opportunities

  • Promote healthy, active lifestyles for all pupils

  • Develop sporting skills, teamwork, resilience and confidence

  • Provide opportunities for competitive sport at local, district and county level

  • Identify and nurture sporting talent, while ensuring inclusion remains central

  • Use sport as a tool to support wellbeing, confidence and engagement

Our provision reflects our belief that every child can succeed in sport, whether through competition, personal challenge, leadership or enjoyment.

Our strong sports provision has a positive impact on pupils and school life.

As a result:

  • All pupils participate regularly in PE and sport

  • Pupils demonstrate improved physical skills, confidence and resilience

  • Engagement and enjoyment in physical activity is high

  • Pupils understand the value of teamwork, perseverance and fair play

  • Disadvantaged pupils and pupils with SEND are actively included and supported

  • Talented pupils are identified and challenged through competitive pathways

  • The school regularly reaches finals and county-level competitions

  • Sport contributes positively to pupils’ wellbeing, behaviour and self-esteem

  • Pupils speak positively about PE and sport, and participation is high across all year groups.

For the year 2024-25, Ashbourne Primary School has been awarded £17,780 via the government ‘Sport Premium’.
