Supporting Fluency in Maths

At Ashbourne Primary School, we want all pupils to develop quick and accurate recall of times table facts. This is a key part of becoming a confident mathematician and supports learning across the maths curriculum.

To support this, we use Times Tables Rock Stars from Year 2 to Year 6.

What is TTRS?

Times Tables Rock Stars is an online programme designed to make times table practice engaging, effective and motivating.

Pupils are given their own login details and can access a range of games that help to improve both accuracy and speed of recall. They can also take part in friendly competition with classmates and pupils from around the world.

Daily Practice

When it comes to learning times tables, short, regular practice is most effective.

We encourage pupils to use TTRS at home little and often, helping them to build strong habits and confidence in maths. Just like daily reading supports literacy, regular practice supports mathematical fluency.

Times Tables Rock Stars can be accessed:

• Through the app on phones and tablets (available via the App Store or Google Play)

Celebrating Success

At Ashbourne Primary, we celebrate pupils’ effort and progress.

Children can earn TTRS badges such as:

• Rock Star
• Rock Legend
• Rock Hero

These are awarded in our celebration assemblies, recognising pupils’ commitment, effort and achievement.
