Ashbourne Primary School

Ashbourne Primary School Council

Our School Council is a group of elected pupils who represent the views of their classmates and contribute to decision-making across the school.

Each class has a representative, who is voted for annually, and works alongside our School Council Leader, Miss Lambert.

Our Role

The School Council plays an important role in ensuring that pupil voice is heard and valued. Members:

  • Represent the ideas and opinions of their class
  • Contribute to discussions about school improvement
  • Help to make decisions about school life
  • Take part in projects that support the wider school community

This may include organising charity events, representing the school at external events and contributing to initiatives such as environmental projects.

Developing Leadership Skills

Being part of the School Council provides pupils with valuable opportunities to:

  • Take on leadership roles
  • Develop confidence and communication skills
  • Work collaboratively with others
  • Solve problems and make decisions
  • Make a positive difference to their school community

Linked to Our Golden Threads

Our School Council supports our Golden Threads:

  • Language and Literacy – pupils develop communication skills by sharing ideas, discussing issues and representing others
  • Resilience and Regulation – pupils learn to listen, reflect and respond thoughtfully to different viewpoints
  • Belonging and Becoming – pupils feel valued and develop a sense of responsibility as active members of the school community
