Pupil Leadership in Sport

At Ashbourne Primary School, pupils in Years 5 and 6 have the opportunity to become part of the School Sport Organising Crew (SSOC).

Pupils volunteer for this role and take part in a dedicated training session led by our PE Coordinator, preparing them to lead and promote sport across the school.

Our Role

The SSOC plays a key role in promoting physical activity, participation and enjoyment of sport. Their responsibilities include:

  • Working with staff and pupils to organise intra-school competitions and sporting opportunities
  • Planning and leading active games during breaktimes for pupils from Year 1 to Year 6
  • Encouraging and motivating others to take part in physical activity
  • Promoting positive attitudes towards sport and healthy lifestyles

Developing Leadership and Skills

Being part of the SSOC provides pupils with valuable opportunities to:

  • Develop leadership and teamwork skills
  • Build confidence and communication skills
  • Take responsibility and show initiative
  • Develop organisation and planning skills
  • Gain important life and employability skills

Through this role, pupils play an active part in improving sport across the school and supporting others to be active and engaged.
