At Ashbourne Primary School, wider opportunities are a vital part of our curriculum. They enrich learning, broaden experiences and support children to develop both academically and personally.
We believe that education extends beyond the classroom. Our carefully planned opportunities ensure that all pupils develop the confidence, skills and experiences they need for the next stage of their education and life beyond school.
We place a strong emphasis on effort, encouraging pupils to try new experiences, take part fully and challenge themselves, knowing that excellent effort always matters.

We recognise that some pupils may have limited access to wider experiences. Our provision ensures that all children benefit from a rich, inclusive and carefully planned range of opportunities, enabling every pupil to participate, succeed and thrive.
Our wider opportunities are carefully designed to reflect our Golden Threads:

Educational visits are carefully planned to enhance learning and provide meaningful, real-life experiences. These include local visits, residential trips and visits linked to curriculum topics.
We offer a wide range of extra-curricular clubs, including sport, music, creative arts and academic enrichment. These opportunities allow pupils to explore interests, develop new skills and build confidence.
Pupils regularly take part in performances, assemblies and whole-school events. These opportunities develop confidence, communication skills and a sense of achievement.
Pupils are given opportunities to take on roles and responsibilities, such as School Councillors, and Reception Buddies. These roles help pupils to develop confidence, responsibility and leadership skills.
We value our place within the Ashbourne community. Pupils take part in community events and activities such as The Ashbourne Big Sing and laying the Remembrance Day wreath, helping them to develop a sense of belonging and an understanding of the wider world.
Through our wider opportunities, pupils:
These experiences ensure that pupils leave Ashbourne Primary as confident, well-rounded individuals, ready for the next stage of their education and beyond
