Sustainability and Climate Change

At Ashbourne Primary School, we are committed to preparing our pupils for a sustainable future. We want our children care for their environment and to grow up with the knowledge, skills and confidence to make a positive difference.

In line with the Department for Education’s Sustainability and Climate Change Strategy, all schools must have a Climate Action Plan and a named Sustainability Lead by 2025. Our plan sets out how we will reduce our environmental impact, protect and enhance nature, and embed climate education across the curriculum.

Our priorities include:

  • Reducing our carbon footprint through energy efficiency and travel

  • Protecting biodiversity by enhancing our school grounds and creating spaces for nature

  • Building resilience to climate change in our school community

  • Inspiring pupils through climate education and outdoor learning
