Physical Education at Ashbourne Primary School

We equip children with transferable skills that enable them to lead long, active and healthy lives.

At Ashbourne Primary, pupils take part in a wide range of physical activities, including competitive sport, personal challenges and festivals, ensuring that all children have the opportunity to participate, compete and succeed.

Our high-quality PE curriculum inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in physically demanding activities. It supports pupils to become physically confident, improving their health, fitness and overall wellbeing. Through participation in sport, pupils develop important values such as fairness, respect and teamwork.

Our PE Provision

All classes take part in two hours of Physical Education each week, where pupils are physically active for sustained periods of time.

Our curriculum is enhanced through strong partnerships, including our work with the Rural Derbyshire School Sport Partnership and Queen Elizabeth Grammar School. Through these links, pupils have opportunities to take part in both friendly festivals and competitive events with qualification pathways.

We also offer a rich and sustainable extra-curricular programme, supported by strong links with local sports clubs, including:

  • Ashbourne Golf Club
  • Peak Performance Triathlon Club
  • Ashbourne Aztecs Junior Football Club
  • Derbyshire Cricket Board (supported by the England and Wales Cricket Board)

These opportunities support pupils in developing skills, confidence and a lifelong interest in sport and physical activity.
