SEND and Inclusion

SEND at Ashbourne Primary School

At Ashbourne Primary School, we are proud to be a fully inclusive school where every child is valued, supported and able to succeed.

We believe that all pupils, including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), should have access to a high-quality education, rich experiences and a strong sense of belonging.

We are ambitious for every child and are committed to ensuring that all pupils learn, achieve and thrive.

Our Approach

We recognise that children are individuals. We tailor our provision to meet each child’s strengths, needs and stage of development, ensuring they are supported to make progress and experience success.

We work closely with:

  • Parents and carers
  • Class teachers and support staff
  • External professionals

to ensure that every child receives the right support at the right time.

How We Support Pupils

Support for pupils with SEND includes:

  • High-quality adaptive teaching in the classroom
  • Targeted small group or individual support
  • Interventions for reading, writing, maths or communication
  • Pastoral and wellbeing support
  • Access to specialist services where needed

Support is regularly reviewed to ensure it is effective and continues to meet each child’s needs.

Our approach to SEND is fully aligned with our Golden Threads:

Language and Literacy

We prioritise communication, vocabulary and understanding so that all pupils can access learning and express themselves confidently.

Resilience and Regulation

We support pupils to develop the skills needed to manage emotions, build confidence and engage positively with learning.

Belonging and Becoming

We ensure every child feels safe, included and valued, enabling them to develop confidence and a sense of identity.
