Pupil Premium

Pupil Premium at Ashbourne Primary School

At Ashbourne Primary School, we are committed to ensuring that all pupils, regardless of background, have the opportunity to achieve, succeed and thrive.

Pupil Premium is additional funding provided to support disadvantaged pupils and help close the attainment gap. We use this funding carefully and strategically to ensure that every child receives the support they need to succeed both academically and personally.

We are ambitious for all pupils. Through our Pupil Premium provision, we aim to:

  • Remove barriers to learning
  • Ensure all pupils can access the full curriculum
  • Support pupils to develop confidence, resilience and independence
  • Provide wider opportunities that raise aspiration

We believe that disadvantage should never be a barrier to success.

Understanding Our Pupils

We recognise that some pupils face additional challenges that can impact their learning. These may include:

  • Gaps in language and communication
  • Low confidence or anxiety
  • Difficulties with self-regulation
  • Limited access to wider experiences
  • Lower starting points or gaps in prior learning

Understanding these barriers allows us to provide targeted and effective support for each child.

Our Approach

We use a tiered approach, focusing on what makes the greatest difference to pupils:

High-Quality Teaching

We prioritise excellent teaching for all pupils through:

  • Ongoing staff training and professional development
  • Consistent, high-quality classroom practice
  • Adaptive teaching to meet individual needs

Targeted Academic Support

We provide additional support where needed, including:

  • Small group or 1:1 interventions
  • Structured programmes to support progress and attainment
  • Additional teaching and tutoring

Wider Support and Pastoral Support

We recognise that barriers to learning are not always academic. We support pupils through:

  • Wellbeing and emotional support
  • Attendance and behaviour support
  • Our Child and Family Wellbeing Team

This ensures pupils are ready to learn and able to succeed.

Linked to Our Golden Threads

Our Pupil Premium provision is aligned with our Golden Threads:

Language and Literacy

We prioritise communication, vocabulary and reading so all pupils can access learning and express themselves confidently.

Resilience and Regulation

We support pupils to develop the skills needed to manage emotions, build confidence and persevere.

Belonging and Becoming

We ensure all pupils feel included, valued and supported, enabling them to develop confidence and aspiration.

Through our Pupil Premium provision, pupils at Ashbourne Primary:

  • Access the full curriculum with increasing independence
  • Develop confidence, resilience and positive attitudes to learning
  • Engage more successfully in lessons
  • Experience a wider range of opportunities
  • Achieve well and make strong progress

We are committed to ensuring that our Pupil Premium funding has a clear and measurable impact.
