15th-21st Book Fair
Our book fair has been an amazing success! Every evening the fair was fit to bursting with children and families searching for a new book and a bargain! We’ve raised an amazing amount for school too! Thanks for all your support.
Well done to our book fair competition winners: Edith in Reception class for her brilliant colouring, Lexie in year 4 for her brilliant Harry Potter bunting and our runner up Zac in year 5 for his ‘Fing’ bunting. We had entries from nearly 250 of you! It was hard to pick a winner!
March 7th – World Book Day
This year we celebrated World Book Day by sharing a story in our pyjamas – we read the opening of Aliens Invaded My Talent Show and we laughed our socks (or slippers!) off!!! We shared a story in assembly then in our own classes and snuggled up with a book.
Poetry off by heart
Year 3 and 4 have been set the challenge of learning a poem off by heart as part of our Whole Class Reading sessions. We experimented with volume and expression, rehearsed in groups and added actions. Here is 3/4O’s version of Edward Lear’s ‘The Owl and the Pussy-Cat’
Year 1 and 5 Reading Buddies
Year 1 and 5V have joined together this term to create a reading buddy session on a Wednesday afternoon. It is wonderful to hear so many great discussions about the year 1 reading books and to get to know a new friend from another key stage!
WHOLE CLASS READING!
Years 3/4/5 have implemented whole class guided reading! We read whole books, parts of books, non-fiction and poetry in these sessions. We read silently, read together and in groups and get to practise our reading skills!
What the children say about whole class reading :
Liam in year 5 says “My confidence is improving! I get to learn new words like chalice!” Year 5 are enjoying Groosham Grange by Anthony Horowitz.
Izabela in year 4 says she loves “quick fire questions and playing fastest finger!”
