Welcome to the Reception Class!

Reading and Phonics
We are really enjoying our daily Phonics sessions where we are beginning to learn some new sounds and words. These are sent home each week with the children to continue to learn at home. Please ensure that you recap these with your children to help consolidate their learning. We are also enjoying sharing our reading books. Please try to read daily with your child and write a comment in their reading record. Thank you!
We have all had a wonderful first few weeks in school. The children have all made lots of new friends and have settled into school really well. We have all enjoyed getting to know each other and everyone has had lots of fun!
We have all been excited to read the Supertato adventures over the Autumn term. The Evil Pea visited our classroom lots of times and did some very unkind things to out vegetable friends, including sticking Carrot to a chair and hanging Broccoli from the ceiling! We set lots of traps for Evil Pea and FINALLY we caught him in the Pea Party, where he stuck to glue and selloptape and our Super Veggie friends that we had created helped to trap lots of Evil Peas in ice.
We were all really excited to investigate the Rainbow Carrots. We all enjoyed trying them with our grown ups when they came for Family Lunch.
Autumn 2 – Let’s Celebrate!
Reception have enjoyed learning about lots of different celebrations including Bonfire Night, Diwali, Remembrance, World Nursery Rhyme Week and Christmas. We enjoyed visiting the local Church for a Christmas craft session and a Christmas Carol concert. We have also enjoyed our Yoga Bugs sessions each Monday afternoon.
We have enjoyed lots of outdoor sessions, focusing on working as team and communicating with our friends.
Spring 1 – Chinese New Year
Reception have enjoyed learning all about Chinese New Year as part of the whole school ‘Diversity’ topic. As part of our topic, we tasted a range of Chinese food including sweet and sour noodles, prawn crackers, sweet chili sauce and we made our very own spring rolls. We also made Sugee Cookies which are a tradition cookie eaten at Chinese New year. Reception class performed their own Dragon Dance as part of the whole school dance festival.
As part of Book Week, the children created their very own story spoons. Can you guess which story their character is from?
We enjoyed ‘Dressing as a word’ for World Book Day, learning lots of new words around school.
